Parish Update

Fourth Sunday of Lent, St John Climacus

March 29th, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christ is in our midst!

As we sojourn this season of social distancing, I, my fellow clergy and the Parish Council are working hard to minister our SJM family as effectively as possible.  This is requiring some creativity.

Virtual Coffee Hour   Following Liturgy, tomorrow, March 29th at approximately 11:30a we will host a Virtual Coffee using Zoom.  Your log in is and the Meeting ID is: 678 235 550.  You do not need a Zoom account to log in, but you will need to download the software when you log in.  You will need to have a camera on your computer.  Hope to see you there.  It will be a great way for us to connect with each other.  Just bring a cup of coffee!

Virtual Catechism  On Wednesday evening follow PreSanctified Liturgy, at 7:30p we will have a Zoom Catechism Class.  Your log in is and the Meeting ID: 515 958 517.  Again, you will need to download the software beforehand and have a camera on your computer.  Because of the platform I am asking everyone to email your questions in so that I can be prepared beforehand.

Virtual Sunday School   On Facebook both Fr Jacob (Middle & High School) and Troy (Herman) Brown (Elementary School) have posted videos for our youth.  Please visit the SJM FB page.

The Church is open Tue-Thur 9a-3p for prayer.  Upon entering there are guidelines posted to wash one’s hands in the narthex bathroom before entering the nave of the church.  We are continuously cleaning all things that are touched by hand.

Every Sunday I am reserving communion for all those who would like to come midweek and receive.  Simply call the office (904.880.7671) or email me ( so that we can coordinate a time.

While still practicing social distancing (6 ft. apart), I am hearing confessions by appointment Tue-Thur 9a-3p.  I will expand these hours if necessary as we approach Holy Week.

We are limited to 10 people in the Church.  As I mentioned last week, we need to have in attendance at least: one priest, one deacon, 1-2 servers, a reader, one choir director, a few choir members and someone to monitor the live streaming feed.  Until these restrictions are lifted by government authorities (and our bishop) please do not come to Church without receiving a blessing beforehand.

The Florida Surgeon General has said that people 65+ or have medical conditions are to stay at home.  If anyone needs to go to the grocery store, pick up medications, please do not hesitate to contact Fr Ted.  We have a team of people ready, willing and able to help you.

I am creatively exploring/pondering various options for the coming weeks so that we can all participate as much as possible in these Holy Days while keeping with the need to maintain social distancing.  Any suggestions are solicited.
