First Ever SJM Blood Drive

This past Sunday, March 3rd, St. Justin Martyr partnered with OneBlood, a nonprofit organization that provides hospitals and patients with blood. Our parishioners were ready and fueled up on extra protein from the Annual Meatfare BBQ. It was a unique opportunity to prepare for Great Lent. With more SJMers than they could handle, the wait was 45 minutes. Truly wonderful.

Blood is a gift of life and everyone needs it. By donating blood we can save a life of someone who is in need. In the Gospel reading of the day, Matthew 25: 34-46, the Lord speaks of the final judgment of all men and how they have served Him by serving others even the least of them.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”
~ Matthew 25: 35 & 36

Even by donating our blood we serve our brethren, we serve the Lord. ‘For I needed blood and you gave it to me.’
Congratulations to all who participated and those who attempted for who the line was too long. We will consider making this an annual pre-lenten event!
